Abundantly Far More

“Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish
abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
-Ephesians 3:20 (NRSV)

I have the unfortunate distinction of being a perfectionist. I hate it. Perfectionism and human life are truly incompatible with one another; nonetheless, I try. I realized late last week that I should have acknowledged and celebrated our 2020 Deaconesses, ordinands, and those who would be commissioned at Lake Junaluska along with our 2021 folks. Their big days were deferred by the pandemic, and they patiently waited for their joyful day to come on Saturday at Lake Junaluska.

It was a wonderful service, and what a privilege it was to be back in Stuart Auditorium and to see them all. We extend our special congratulations to those who have waited to be recognized:

Deaconesses:

Renee Hayes (Faith and Community Worker, Trinity Parish)
Eloise Moore (Nurture, Outreach, and Witness Coordinator, Memorial High Point)

Commissioning Class of 2020:

Josh Barnes (Hopewell)
Andrew Baten (Rehobeth)
Nathan Webb (Checkpoint, formerly at Pelham UMC as a student pastor)

Elder Class of 2020:

Wendy Barnes (Jamestown)
Nikki Baten (Rehobeth)
Brandon Wrencher (Good Neighbor Movement)

We add our congratulations to these folks, as well as to Ellis, Wanda, Johnny, Caroline, and Katey. It was a super weekend!

Yours in Christ,

Bev Coppley
District Superintendent
